Background
Joshua Schamach, CAC, ICADC, is a group facilitator supporting clients at RECO Island, the network’s medical detox program. His role is introducing early-recovery clients to skills-based practices during medical detox and stabilization — the practices that will become the foundation of what comes next.
Joshua has facilitated groups at RECO Intensive, House of Discernment, Galt Ocean Rehab, Legacy Healing Center, and Solutions Recovery. His clinical work is informed by his own lived experience in recovery.
Approach
In the detox setting, Joshua’s work is calibrated for how fragile early recovery is. He runs process and psychoeducational groups that are gentle but substantive, drawing on motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and simple CBT frameworks that clients can hold onto through the physical and emotional roughness of detox.
He is pursuing an M.S. in Professional Counseling Psychology at Florida International University on his path toward LMHC licensure.
Education & Credentials
CAC, ICADC. M.S. Professional Counseling Psychology (in progress) and B.A. Psychology, summa cum laude, Florida International University. B.S. Business Administration-Finance, cum laude, University of Florida. Interdisciplinary background in medical education, exercise and allostatic-load research in recovery, science instruction, and ER triage volunteer service.
What to Expect
At RECO Island, clients in Joshua’s groups find a facilitator who meets them exactly where they are — physically depleted, emotionally raw, uncertain about what comes next — and gives them small, real tools to hold onto.
