Background
Vincenzina Disalvo, MFT is the Family Therapist supporting loved ones of clients at RECO Island, the network’s medical detox program. Her focus is walking families through the vulnerable first phase of recovery — what detox is, what it isn’t, and how to be helpful without being harmful during a moment when everyone is running on emotion.
Ms. V’s work is informed by her own family’s experience. After her son struggled with addiction, she returned to school to become an MFT so she could offer families the guidance she once wished she had.
Approach
Ms. V’s approach at RECO Island is educational, empathetic, and boundary-focused. She helps families understand the medical realities of detox, prepares them for what happens next (residential, PHP, IOP), and equips them with the communication tools they will need to be helpful without collapsing back into old dynamics.
She leads with warmth and unconditional love, but she doesn’t avoid the hard conversations. Families in her care learn to hold boundaries, ask directly for what they need, and support their loved one without erasing themselves.
Education & Credentials
Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. Ms. V’s clinical work is grounded in her own lived experience as a family member of someone in recovery, which shapes how she meets each family walking through their loved one’s detox.
What to Expect
Families supporting a loved one at RECO Island find in Ms. V a therapist who has been where they are and can guide them through the disorientation of the detox phase — with practical education, honest reflection, and a plan for what comes next.
